I’m Jo Hunter and I have been lucky enough to be a Realtor in the Tri-Valley area since 1979. Needless to say, I’ve seen everything. When I first started, the purchase contract was one legal page and the only inspection anyone ordered was a termite inspection. Today, with the contract and all the addendums, we’re lucky to have less than 20 pages and that’s just the beginning.
Real estate is an exciting industry with constant changes and challenges. In the 80’s, we all got extremely excited when the interest rate for a 30 year loan dropped to 12%. Today, it is hovering around 4% and has been for some time. Of course, the price of homes has changed dramatically, too. It has become more important for Realtors to stay educated on all new developments. I have strived to do just that and am proud to say that most of my business comes from past clients and their referrals. It is so great to sell homes to the children of some of my first buyers and sellers.
I grew up in Northern Louisiana, lived all over the South and even in Indonesia. We moved often when my children were young and traveled all over the world. My husband was a petroleum engineer with Chevron and we moved where the oil production was thriving. I was able to use my teaching degree in some of the locations, but it seemed that as soon as we got settled, we had to move again. So, I have a special empathy for families that are re-locating.
I had never been to California when we were transferred here. I thought everyone here was a “hippie” or a movie star. I remember vividly the first day we arrived in San Francisco and drove out to the East Bay. I thought I had surely arrived in heaven. It was a beautiful sunshiny day and “No humidity”. The hills were “golden” and picture perfect. I found out later that it was because it doesn’t rain here in the summer.
I have been an active Realtor since I started in 1979 and have earned some awards and designations along the way. But, the most rewarding thing to me is the thrill of helping someone find their dream home and then helping them sell it when their life situation changes.
I work with my daughter, Carla, and we make a great team. I have the years of experience and she has all the technological know-how. We would both welcome an opportunity to help you with your real estate needs. Please call or email with any of your real estate questions or concerns.
